Clausal Patterns
Sadly, not every grammar course nor grammar book defines grammar as a system; a system that puts parts of words, words & phrases into meaningful units that indicate and illustrate the relationship between thee units. When studying grammar, you learn to de-construct texts, sentences & clauses - and to understand how the parts function together.
The clause is the basic building block of language. This is a first introduction of how clauses are constructed around the lexical verb in the predicator. It is this verb that determines the other components that must be in the clause. There are 7 clausal patterns.
